SUNFISH HAS TRUNCATED TAIL - TOPS OUT AT 5000 POUNDS - BUT VULNERABLE TO EATING PLASTIC BAGS BECAUSE THEY MAY SEEM TO BE JELLIES

Excerpt: Because molas spend so much time drifting near the ocean surface, they are vulnerable to fishing boats that use drift gillnets. Gillnets usually don't kill molas immediately, but they cut into their skin, scrape off their protective mucus and flood their gills with air.

Another hazard to the mola are discarded plastic bags. When these wind up in the ocean, they float at the surface and look a lot like a jelly — a mola's favorite meal. If the mola doesn't choke as it sucks the bag in, the plastic can clog the fish's stomach, slowly starving the animal. Helping the mola is one more reason to carry your own shopping bags with you to the store — and make sure any plastic bags you use are properly disposed of.

The mola is listed as “vulnerable” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

CAN WILDFIRE ASH BE A POSITIVE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT ? : HERE'S AN ALTERNATIVE OPINION BASED ON RESEARCH

KCLU ORG : WILDFIRE ASH PROVIDES NUTRIENTS

Excerpt: Debris and ash created issues for many of the region’s waterways. The first instinct is that it might also be a major form of toxic pollution for the ocean. But, researchers say they’ve discovered ash could actually be beneficial.

"There were metals, which can be good or bad, toxic or beneficial for organisms, and then there were a bunch of nutrients that phytoplankton use to grow," said Tanika Ladd.

In this UC Santa Barbara Current  article it's revealed that the ash and debris could be a positive for the ocean's tiniest creatures but negative for fresh waterways....

CRAFTING SEA CREATURES ...

I'm going to post some YouTube videos that feature sewing and crochet to create sea creatures by sewing, crocheting, or embroidering.

I think these could be fun to learn to make and would also make good presents...

However, I ask you, when making stuffed animals to use cotton or other NATURAL products for the stuffing - such as cotton or bamboo , as much as possible and to also RECYCLE FABRICS, BUTTONS, and so on from OLD CLOTHING or whatever you already have around in order to make these as ECOLOGY SENSITIVE AS POSSIBLE!

When it comes to PLASTICS in art projects, use what you have but because plastic is a pollution problem and a health problem for all creatures (including us) to find or make some sort of substitute.

WHAT SEA CREATURE HAS THREE HEARTS ? WHAT COLOR IS THEIR BLOOD?

Smithsonian Magazine : Ten Wild Facts About Octopus

TEN FACTS !

Excerpt:  Two of the hearts work exclusively to move blood past the animal’s gills, where it releases carbon dioxide and gains oxygen. Then, the third heart circulates that oxygen-rich blood to the organs and muscles, giving them energy. But the latter heart actually stops beating when the octopus swims, explaining the species’ penchant for crawling rather than swimming, which exhausts them.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS TO BE PART OF THE ACTIVISM TO RESPECT OUR MARINE ECOSYSTEM - SEA LIFE and BEACHES

1) I do not take sea creatures including shells from the tide pools. I can take pictures of them with my camera.

2) When I go to the beach, anything I take with me, I bring back out. I don't leave any garbage there.

3)  While I'm at the beach, I can take a bag and fill it with refuse that has washed up and throw it away properly.

4) I do whatever possible to recycle all things that are not organics.  I will check with my city to see where I can take things like old cell phones and electronics, batteries, nail polish, paint, plastics, and other items.

5) I will investigate what nonprofits and other organizations are involved in my area with preserving or reestablishing the marine ecosystem. I can support them through money donations or by volunteering.  (Beach clean ups can be a great way to meet like minded people.)

6) I will choose one sea creature and learn everything I can about it this year.

7) I will not buy sea shells from shops nor items made with them because dredging for shells is ruining the ecosystem too.

8) I will consider where any sea food I eat is sourced and avoid eating any seafood that comes from Chinese or other countries where ships use Forced Labor (Labor trafficking or slavery.)
