HUNDREDS OF PINK DOLPHINS FOUND DEAD IN BRAZIL'S LAKE TEFE : THEY BOILED IN HEAT WAVE WATER HOTTER THAN A JACUZZI

CBS : DOLPHINS DEAD IN WATER HOTTER THAN JACUZZI BRAZIL LAKE TEFE

Excerpts:

Officials from the World Wildlife Fund Brazil said 153 dolphins were found dead the week of Sept. 23, 2023, including 130 pink dolphins, and 23 tucuxi dolphins. Both are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List and the latter of which are considered "the guardians of rivers and a symbol of good luck," according to RiverDolphins.org.

"The climate emergency is here"

What made it even more remarkable, said Fleischmann, was that the same temperature was found not just at the surface but throughout the two-meter-deep water column.

Using computer modeling, the team identified four key drivers: strong solar heating, shallow waters, low wind speeds, and high turbidity — a measure of water haziness.

These factors reinforce one another. Shallowness increases turbidity, which traps more heat, while low wind carries less heat away, leaving the water more exposed to clear skies and intense sunlight.

Another stressor for aquatic life was the large swing between highs and lows, with the peak of 41C in Tefe followed by a nighttime low of 27C.

AXOLOTL : MEXICO'S ENDANGERED FISH : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED AXOLOTL : SALAMANDER WITH GILLS : HABITAT LAKE NEAR MEXICO CITY : MAYBE ONLY 50 -1000 LEFT IN THE WILD!

I must say that these Axolotl are some of the ----cutest ---- fish I've seen. But at a local library event I stopped in at recently, the children were crayoning coloring pages of this fish ---- and I had no idea it was actually critically endangered! My internet searches revealed that considering them play-things was common... IN FACT THERE ARE MANY YOUTUBE VIDEOS ENCOURAGING OWNERSHIP OF THIS FISH!!!

I DON'T LIKE THAT IDEA AT ALL!

Endangered species do not belong in home aquariums. If you have such a creature in a home aquarium I ask you - please - to contact your closest aquarium or university that has a marine biology program. I would like to see such fish united in a marine environment where they can live a more normal fish life and possible reproduce...

Earth Org : Spotlight on endangered species AXOLOTL

Excerpt: Unlike other amphibians, the axolotl is neotenic and does not go through metamorphosis, thus remaining aquatic and retaining its juvenile features into adulthood. A popular pick for the exotic pet trade, the ever-smiling, feathery-gilled axolotl is easily bred in captivity, having further piqued the interest of scientists and geneticists through its ability to regenerate parts of its body, such as its limbs, eyes, heart, spinal cord and parts of its brain. As such, the species’ plight is regarded as a conservation paradox: although abundant in captivity, rampant habitat degradation and disturbance has rendered the species critically endangered in the wild.

A LAKE IS FRESHWATER BUT A SEA IS SALTWATER?

Do the names of various bodies of water tell us if the water is salty or not?

The Great Lakes are freshwater.  (And hold about 20% of the water on earth.)

The Great Lakes are named Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario,

The Great Salt Lake in Utah is salty, though called a lake.

The largest salt water lake in the world is named The Caspian Sea.

Do a little research and learn how a body of water becomes "salty."

SUB GLACIAL LAKES OF GREENLAND ARE MISSING BILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER

ABC - MYSTERY OF GREENLANDS DISAPPEARING LAKES

EXCERPT:  Scientists are baffled after two lakes in Greenland were mysteriously drained of billions of gallons of water.

One lake was so large that a mile-wide crater was left behind after it was drained in the span of a few weeks. Another sub-glacial lake has been filled and emptied twice in the last two years. ... Ian Howat, a professor at Ohio State University, who studied the lake that left behind a mile-wide crater, said the findings of the study were "catastrophic."

ENDANGERED SPECIES - AN IMPORTANT ISSUE

While we're concerned about drought on land and having enough water for drinking, bathing, cooking... never mind watering lawns!  And having enough fresh water so that farmers can water their crops and their animals will have enough too ... so we can eat... live... is of utmost importance,  there is always evidence of environmental changes that effect FISH and SEA CREATURES in fresh and salt water.  Over the next few days I'll be posting links to some important news articles that cover these issues.
