OCEAN DEFENDERS ALLIANCE

OCNONPROFITCENTRAL : OCEAN DEFENDERS ALLIANCE

This looks like a great one!

Excerpt: In 23 years, ODA has performed just under 600 ocean cleanups in 7 different counties of California and Hawai'i. The debris that has been removed from harm's way includes:

Plastics: over 84 tons (168,000 pounds)
Traps: 540
Trap lines that entangle whales: 51,000 feet
Fishing line: 293,000 feet
Nets: 49,000 pounds
Misc Debris: 139,000 pounds
Lead fishing weights: 11,500 pounds

And so much more! Marine wildlife and their habitats are safer without this hazardous debris.

************

Ocean Defenders Alliance (ODA) began protecting California's ocean ecosystems and wildlife in 2000. We are the longest running nonprofit focused solely on removal of dangerous man-made fishing gear from the coastal waters of California.  Since then, and because of the help of our many wonderful volunteers, we have removed vast amounts of trap-line and net that too often entangle whales, dolphins, and sea lions. We have also recovered hundreds of abandoned lobster traps and many tons of other debris that was threatening marine life. The result for sea life is simple: ODA's work has saved hundreds of thousands of animals from unnecessary and horrific death (most often drowning or starvation).  The world's oceans are in serious decline, primarily due to human abuse and neglect--but there is cause for hope! Working together with respect and focus, we will increase our already positive impact.  Please help us ensure healthy oceans for future generations. The time to act is NOW! Come join us!

DEEP DIVE DUBAI IS THE DEEPEST POOL IN THE WORLD CIRCA 2024 AT 60 METERS DEEP

Now the Guinness Book of World Records holder as the world's deepest pool, since 2021, this one is 60 meters deep and is heated so that cumbersome suits are not a requirement. The pool has an area that was designed with the idea of underwater filming featuring a sunken city and various props. Dozens of underwater cameras are watched to add to the safety of the experience.

DEEPEST SWIMMING POOLS IN THE WORLD! : NEMO 33 is 33 METERS DEEP (WOULD YOU DARE TO GO THAT FAR DOWN?)

NEMO 33 held the record for some time and it exists in Brussels, Belgium.  Pools like this are architectural achievements and provide thrill-seekers who dive or freedive (no oxygen equipment) an opportunity to experience a strange water environment, which, unlike a lake or ocean is free of marine animals and other hazards.  It could still be very scary. People from all over the world go to experience the pool. Some to experience what it is to have so much water above you. Some to practice for deep sea dives.  Unlike the ocean water, Nemo 33 water is warm and considered tropical, and the water is non-chlorinated fresh water.  It held the Guinness World Record as the deepest indoor pool in the world from 2004 for about a decade.

According to various web sites on water pressure, at 33 feet down deep in the ocean there is a total pressure of 29.4 pounds per square inch being exerted on a body.  Adjustments to oxygen are needed. But in water man can experience weightlessness.

GREAT BARRIER REEF ORG : DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE SIX INHABITABLE 9 i.e. RESORT) ISLANDS AS PART OF THE REEF SYSTEM?

GREAT BARRIER REEF ORG

OK this site is a bit tourist oriented but I was fascinated to know that there are over 100 islands that are part of the reef system and that six of them are vacation destinations. Some of these are remote and accommodate only a few guests at a time willing to live in more island rustic conditions.  Who goes there and why?

Scuba Divers for one. Snorkelers for two.

Here's an excerpt:  Heron Island is a World Heritage-Listed marine National Park, all flora and fauna is protected, so the island is a nature lover's paradise with the emphasis on enjoying natural beauty.  A vacation here replaces stress with a sense of adventure and your days are filled with discovery.
