Excerpt: Harbor seals are recognized for emitting a diverse range of sounds, both beneath the water’s surface and in the air. Their underwater vocalization is characterized as a roar. They can detect underwater tonal signals between 0.25 and 100 kHz. In addition, they generate brief barks, tonal honks, grunts, growls, roars, moans, and pup contact calls when above water.
