WASHINGTON POST : PANDORA DIES AT NATIONAL ZOO full article link
At five years old Pandora was in old age...
"The cause of the octopus’s death is still unknown, although most octopuses die after breeding. Pandora had released unfertilized eggs, each the size of a grain of rice, in April 2013.
Zoo curators began to worry about Pandora on Feb. 10, when she started exhibiting the common signs of old age in octopuses: limited movement and less muscle tone."

THE OCTOPUS as a SYMBOL
Did you know?
ONE OF THE COMMONEST SYMBOLS among Mediterranean civilizations, the octopus is related to the spiral and represents the unfolding of creation from the mystic centre. Along with the crab, it is sometimes associated with the astrological sign of Cancer.

ARE GIANT SQUID CANNIBALS ?
This is a New Scientist story a few years old, but I've been reading up on Giant Squid. These are maybe 50 feet! There are also Giant Octopus. Now these live at great depths and so it is rare that one be captured. Sadly the Japanese captured a Giant Squid a few years ago and it died of it's injuries from being captured. STUDY IN THEIR OWN ECOZONE!
