MORE THAN 200 SHIPS MAKE UP AMERICA's LARGEST GHOST FLEET and THE MALLOWS BAY - POTOMAC NATURE PRESERVE - BIOBLITZ SEPTEMBER 9th

DAILY MAIL : SUNKEN GHOST FLEET 

In 2019, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration designated the area a national marine sanctuary.  All but one of the ships were built of wood.  Most were used in World War I.  As sediment built up, some of the sunken ships became places where trees and bushes took root.  A fresh water environment, both marine life and birds find a place called home.

Sept 9th - coming up, Mallows Bay is hosting a BioBlitz, so the public can volunteer to help identify the species that call Mallows Bay home.  Research on the ecology of the area is ongoing.

TWO YEAR OLD GREY WHALE LOST IN THE MEDITERRANEAN - RARE EVENT PROPELED BY CLIMATE CHANGE?

As ice disappears. passages open for marine animals to travel between the Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean.

However, some marine animals like Wally, become confused and are taking the wrong route when it is time to migrate.

Wally is believed to have taken the Gibraltar Straight to the Mediterranean and followed the Moroccan coast before traveling across Italian shores and landing in France where Hansen and his team spotted him.

She's 17 feet long.

He's "ginger" and proof of a rare genetics in seals.

EXCERPT:  Biologist Vladimir Burkanov says that so far this fur seal on Tyuleny Island - nicknamed The Ugly Ducking - has not become a total outcast,yet there are signs of it being slightly shunned.

"The pup looks well fed and was very active, so its mother clearly gave it plenty of milk," he said.
