THE GUARDIAN : A FILM STARING KEVIN COSTNER and ASHTON KUTCHER

"The Guardian" is a film about the United States COAST GUARD and the role they play in dangerous rescues at sea. Hundreds of boats of all sizes and types get in trouble while at sea and sink, and often their only hope is a rescue by Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers, who are dropped from about 20 feet into the sea and do their selfless best to rescue those who are in trouble. Sometimes they have to decide in a practical way who will live and who will be left to die, depending on how much time they have and the conditions they encounter. This movie focuses on an old timer, a legend, who is starting to run out of the energy and luck it takes to keep doing the job. He becomes an instructor at the Coast Guard academy where his somewhat unconventional methods to train - and eliminate those who can't do the job - put candidates into conditions they might encounter at sea. They must tread water for an hour, experience hypothermia, and what it is to have someone you're rescuing fight you because they are panicking. This movie was so interesting I didn't get up for snacks. I was totally into it. Now I don't want to ruin this movie for you by giving a play by play account of what happens but I think you may find the spiritual aspect of it also compelling!
